How to convert ASS to SRT

What gets lost in the conversion?
Everything SRT cannot express: fonts, colours, outlines, positioning, rotations and karaoke timing. Override blocks in curly braces are removed. Line breaks written as \N are kept as real line breaks, and the dialogue text and timings come through unchanged.
Does the column order in my file matter?
No. The converter reads the Format line inside [Events] and locates Start, End and Text by name, so files that reorder those columns still work. Commas inside the dialogue are handled correctly because Text is always the last field.
